COVID-19 positivity rate climbed to 5% in DeKalb County this week, as 79 more residents recover

The COVID-19 positivity rate crept upward in DeKalb County this week, reaching 5.0% as the DeKalb County Health Department reported 79 additional recoveries this week.

The department also announced 15 new cases of the novel coronavirus Friday as the total case count rose to 943. There remained 30 deaths and no new cases were reported at any longterm care facilities Friday. Updated cases and other data isn’t expected until Monday, as the health department no longer releases data on the weekends.

According to new testing and recovery data released Friday, 18,972 tests have been run in the county to date, and 698 residents have fully recovered from the illness.

Of the new cases reported Friday, three each were in residents 19 and younger and in their 20s, three in their 30s, one in their 40s and nine in their 50s.

To date, there are 100 cases in residents younger than 20, 236 in their 20s, 155 in their 30s, 129 in their 40s, 119 in their 50s, 69 in their 60s, 56 in their 70s and 64 older than 80.

The Illinois Department of Public Health lists cases and tests performed by ZIP code, while the county health department lists cases by municipality. Numbers vary between state and health departments because of data lags.

According to county data, the city of DeKalb reports between 441 and 445 cases. There are 116 to 120 cases in Sycamore; 131 to 135 in Sandwich; 86 to 90 cases in Genoa; 46 to 50 cases in Cortland; 16 to 20 in Hinckley, Somonauk and Kingston; 11 to 15 in Kirkland and Malta; and six to 10 cases in Waterman. Esmond, Earlville, Shabbona and Maple Park each report one to five cases.

The 60115 ZIP code, including DeKalb, had 430 cases reported and 6,685 tests administered (a positivity rate of 6.4%); the 60178 ZIP code, including Sycamore, had 142 cases and 2,827 tests (5.0%); the 60548 ZIP code, including Sandwich, had 2,717 tests and 176 cases (6.5%); the 60112 ZIP code, including Cortland, had 47 cases and 610 tests (7.7%); the 60135 ZIP code, including Genoa, had 86 cases and 992 tests (8.7%); the 60145 ZIP code, including Kingston, had 15 cases and 252 tests (5.9%) and the 60146 ZIP code, including Kirkland, had 18 cases and 336 tests (5.4%).

In total, IDPH reported 190.508 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 7,613 people have died statewide. As of Friday, 2,984,618 tests have been performed. The site also lists statewide recovery rates, calculated by recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and dead cases. The statewide recovery remained at 95%.
