Crash near Maple Park causes power lines to fall onto vehicle

MAPLE PARK – An Elgin woman was transported to the hospital Friday after an early morning crash that caused live power lines to fall on her vehicle.

According to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, Joanne Lewandowski, 58, of the 1300 block of Sebring Circle, was driving a gray Chevrolet SUV that left the road near the intersection of Route 38 and East County Line Road, striking a utility pole at 1:09 a.m..

The collision caused the power lines to fall onto the vehicle. A utility crew was called to the scene to turn off the power in the area so the wires could be safely removed.

Lewandowski was taken by Maple Park ambulance to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, according to the news release. Police said she also was cited for driving too fast for conditions and driving without insurance.
