DeKalb County Board member running for circuit clerk

DeKALB – A new candidate has thrown her hat into the ring to be the next DeKalb County circuit clerk.

DeKalb Democrat Rukisha Crawford, who currently represents District 6 on the DeKalb County Board, announced she is running for the circuit clerk position in 2020.

“As an active community member, my goal is to build strong relationships within my community and to continue the DeKalb County tradition of offering great government service in the role of DeKalb County circuit clerk,” Crawford said in a news release.

The circuit clerk job is currently held by Republican Maureen Josh. Josh announced in June that she would not be running for reelection after holding the office since 1984. DeKalb Republican Savannah Ilenikhena announced her candidacy for the position last month.

Crawford is on the Economic Development and the Health and Human Services committees of the county board, and serves on the DeKalb County Board of Health.

Crawford has been a DeKalb resident for more than 20 years. She has an associate degree from Kishwaukee College, and a bachelor’s and two master’s degrees from Northern Illinois University.

An official campaign launch meet-and-greet event is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at DeKalb County Democratic Headquarters at 205 N. Second St., DeKalb. The event is free and open to the public.
