DeKalb County official says no changes for March primary elections

SYCAMORE – There will be no changes to voting before the March primary elections in DeKalb County.

Back in June, there was discussion about closing a registration center at Northern Illinois University’s Holmes Student Center, but that idea never turned into action, said Doug Johnson, DeKalb County Clerk and Recorder. He said closing a registration center before the March 17 primary is not on the docket.

“Everything will stay the same,” he said.

Johnson said the biggest reason for the whole discussion earlier this year was because there are other options for people to register to vote – including registering online, by mail and for out of area college students to register from their home towns.

He said those discussions were more about him looking at the effectiveness of having a registration center on the NIU campus.

Johnson also said another option for those who still need to register to vote is at a polling place before they vote.

As for March, Johnson said considering how busy the primary election could be there have been no changes.

“The staff has its routine down from previous years, so things should run smoothly,” he said.
