DeKalb County reports 24 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday

The DeKalb County Health Department reported 24 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the county on Tuesday as the total number of cases reached 902.

No new cases or deaths were reported in longterm care facilities in the county. Two new cases were reported in residents under 19, five in their 20s, six in their 30s, four each in their 40s and 50s, two in their 60s and one over 80.

The death toll in the county remains at 29.

According to county data, 35.9% of the cases are in patients under 30, up more than three percentage points from Monday. Statewide, just 21.8% of COVID-19 patients are under 30 according to information released by the Illinois Department of Public Health.

In all in the county, there are 97 cases in residents younger than 20, 227 in their 20s, 152 in their 30s, 126 in their 40s, 113 in their 50s, 68 in their 60s, 56 in their 70s and 63 older than 80.

According to county data, the city of DeKalb reports between 421 and 425 cases. There are 111 to 115 cases in Sycamore; 116 to 120 in Sandwich; 81 to 85 cases in Genoa; 46 to 50 cases in Cortland; 16 to 20 in Hinckley; 11 to 15 in Kirkland, Somonauk, Kingston and Malta; and six to 10 cases in Waterman. Esmond, Earlville, Shabbona and Maple Park each report one to five cases.

The IDPH lists cases and tests performed by ZIP code, while the county health department lists cases by municipality. Numbers vary from state and health departments because of data lags.

The 60115 ZIP code, including DeKalb, had 414 cases reported and 6,264 tests administered (a positivity rate of 6.6%). The 60178 ZIP code, including Sycamore, had 132 cases and 2,609 tests (5.1%). The 60548 ZIP code, including Sandwich, had 2,623 tests and 166 cases (6.3%). The 60112 ZIP code, including Cortland, had 45 cases and 576 tests (7.8%). The 60135 ZIP code, including Genoa, had 79 cases and 939 tests (8.4%), the 60145 ZIP code, including Kingston, had 14 cases and 237 tests (5.9%) and the 60146 ZIP code, including Kirkland, had 17 cases and 318 tests (5.3%).

In total, IDPH reported 184.712 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 7,545 people have died statewide. As of Tuesday, 2,849,395 tests have been performed. The site also lists statewide recovery rates, calculated by recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and dead cases. The statewide recovery remained at 95%.

According to weekly data released by the county on Fridays, there are 619 total recoveries in the county according to the county data, with 188 residents still in the recovery period. In all, there have been 17,157 tests administered. The positivity rate countywide is at 4.9%.
