DeKalb police briefly closed Lincoln Highway downtown responding to mental health crisis Friday

DeKALB – DeKalb police briefly closed Lincoln Highway downtown Friday afternoon responding to a man who was experiencing a mental health crisis, said interim Police Chief John Petragallo.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, the street was cleared and paramedics from the DeKalb Fire Department were on their way to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital so the man could undergo a mental health evaluation.

“We had a subject undergoing a mental health crisis here, and it’s over now,” Petragallo said. “There were no injuries.”

Petragallo said police responded to calls in the 200 block of East Lincoln Highway Friday afternoon for a man on the sidewalk who seemed “really upset.”

Petragallo said there are no charges at this time, and the road was closed for about 20 minutes.
