DeKALB – The bodies of two women found within blocks of each other less than two weeks apart have been identified by the DeKalb County Coroner.
Rebecca Garcia, 23, of the 800 block of Edgebrooke Drive in DeKalb, whose body was found on May 24 near the Ridge Drive Apartments, was found to have died from an overdose of fentanyl and cocaine intoxication, said DeKalb County Coroner Denny Miller Thursday.
Miller said the cause of death was ruled inconclusive after the autopsy back in May, so his office had to wait for toxicology reports to come back.
Miller also identified another DeKalb woman, Joyce Pozniak, 22, of the 800 block of Ridge Drive, who’s cause of death is still under investigation, as toxicology reports have not yet been released. Pozniak’s body was found June 7 inside an apartment in the Ridge Drive Apartment complex.
DeKalb police Cmdr. Bob Redel has said that the two instances are not believed to be related, and that there were no obvious signs of trauma to either body when DeKalb police responded to each scene.
