DeKalb's mayor seeks candidates for vacant Ward 4 alderman seat

DeKALB – DeKalb Mayor Jerry Smith is looking for a resident of the 4th Ward to fill a vacant seat on the City Council.

The position was vacated Sept. 26 when Patrick Fagan announced he was moving and would no longer live in the 4th Ward.

Smith is tasked with filling the position, and whoever holds the seat will serve the remainder of Fagan’s unexpired term, through April 2021. DeKalb’s 4th Ward comprises the southwest part of the city, including much of the downtown area south of Lincoln Highway. A ward map is available on the city’s website, CityofDeKalb.com.

Prospective appointees must have lived in the city for at least a year and have no felony record to qualify.

Those interested should send a letter and resume with background information to Smith at 200 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115, or by email at jerry.smith@cityofdekalb.com.

Applications are due Oct. 11, according to a news release from the city.
