Democrat announces run for DeKalb County State's Attorney

SYCAMORE – An attorney from rural Earlville has thrown her hat into the ring for DeKalb County State’s Attorney.

Democrat Anna M. Wilhelmi, a real estate attorney with an office in Aurora, said she has handled many types of cases, including traffic, criminal misdemeanor and felony cases, abuse/neglect, juvenile delinquency, domestic violence, orders of protection, appeals, real estate and has argued before the Illinois Supreme Court, according to a news release.

She began her career in the Kane County Public Defender’s Office and opened her own practice in 2000, according to the release.

She’s lived in DeKalb County for 15 years and received her undergraduate degree in Sociology with an emphasis on Criminology from Northern Illinois University. She also graduated from Northern Illinois University Law School.

“Criminal Justice and Bail Reform are at the forefront of my passion, and I am here to ensure that our Criminal Justice System is fair and just to all, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion,” Wilhelmi said in a news release.

Wilhelmi is currently unopposed for the Democratic nomination. She would face incumbent Rick Amato, who is also unopposed for the Republican nomination, in the November 2020 General Election.

Originally from Joliet, Wilhelmi lives north of Earlville.
