Diamond kitchen fire injures one, causes $85K in damage to duplex

DIAMOND – A kitchen fire inside a duplex residential unit on Friday sent one person to the hospital and caused $85,000 worth of damage, according to the Coal City Fire Protection District.

According to a news release from the fire district, crews were called to the 1500 Block of Patmore Street about 3:30 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find a blaze inside a duplex residential unit.

The fire was contained to one unit of the duplex with the area of origin in the kitchen, according to a the release. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, officials said in the release.

The occupant was transported to Morris Hospital, according to officials, who did not provide the person’s medical condition.

The CCFPD was assisted by multiple jurisdictions, including Morris, Wilmington, Braidwood, Dwight, Manhattan, Limestone, Channahon, Seneca, the Grundy County Sheriff’s Police, the Grundy County Emergency Management Agency and the MABAS 15 fire investigators.
