SYCAMORE – A Sycamore man swerved his gray Dodge Durango off the road Thursday evening to avoid a head-on collision with a white Ford Fiesta on Plank Road. The man driving the Durango was not injured.
The crash occurred about 5 p.m. Thursday in the 16000 block of Plank Road, which is less than a mile east of Devine Way, according a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
The man driving the Dodge Durango was driving east, according to the release. He also reportedly was wearing his seatbelt.
Colton M. Parks, 19, of Sycamore was driving his Ford Fiesta west on Plank Road at the time. Parks reportedly drove his vehicle into the eastbound lane, which forced the Durango’s driver to brake before heading south and off the road – subsequently overturning the Durango, according to the release.
DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies found Parks, and he was cited for improper lane usage, according to the release. Accurate Towing towed the Dodge Durango from the scene.
Area residents previously have voiced concerns about the safety along Plank Road. More than 2,300 people have signed a petition that requests a restriping of the yellow line on Plank Road from the south edge of Moose Range Road eastward to beyond the S-curve east of Lukens Road by using a double, solid yellow stripe to indicate a No-Passing Zone.
Sycamore resident Julie Weingarz began the petition also hoping it can serve as a request to implement No Passing signs along the stretch of Plank Road in addition to restricting the speed limit through the stretch to 45 mph.
