While the DeKalb County Health Department announced eight new local cases of the novel coronavirus Thursday, it revised the death toll downward to reflect new information.
The total positive case count is nearly 300 as of Thursday, though 97 are reported to have fully recovered as of May 15. New recovery data is expected Friday.
The death of a man in his 50s reported on Tuesday was actually not a DeKalb County resident, administrator Lisa Gonzalez said in a statement to the Daily Chronicle.
“We reported a person in their 50s as a positive COVID-19 case and subsequently reported the health of the individual (on Tuesday),” Gonzalez said. “Upon receiving the full patient record, it was determined that the individual’s place of residence was outside of DeKalb County. The data has been reflected to update that change.”
There have now been 299 reported positive COVID-19 cases in the county and three deaths, a man in his 50s, a woman in her 50s and a man in his 60s.
The new cases reported Thursday included two in patients under 20, one in their 20s, four in their 30s and one in their 50s. Of the 299 cases, 49.8% are in patients under 40 in the county.
Including the new cases in DeKalb County, there have been 19 COVID-19 occurrences in residents younger than age 19, 73 in their 20s, 64 in their 30s, with 55 in their 40s, 52 in their 50s, 17 in their 60s, 14 in their 70s and three in residents over 80. The patients in their 50s decreased by one from Wednesday due to the reporting information.
According to the latest data on the county site, DeKalb is reporting between 131 and 135 cases, up from Wednesday. Sandwich is reporting between 41 and 45 cases. Sycamore has between 36 and 40 cases, Genoa has between 26 and 30 cases, and Cortland has between 21 and 25, up from Wednesday. Kingston and Hinckley are reported to have between six and 10 cases. Kirkland, Esmond, Malta, Maple Park, Shabbona, Somonauk and Waterman each report between one and five cases.
The Illinois Department of Public Health lists cases and tests by ZIP code, while the county health department lists cases by municipality. Numbers vary from state and health departments due to data lags. The 60135 ZIP code, which includes Genoa, has 26 confirmed cases and 228 tests administered. The 60115 ZIP code went up to 127 confirmed cases and 1,140 tests, while the 60178 ZIP code has 37 confirmed cases and 507 tests.
In total, IDPH reports 102,686 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 4,607 people have died statewide. As of Wednesday, 672,020 tests have been performed.
As of May 15, the DeKalb County Health Department reported 2,146 tests performed have come back negative and 97 patients have recovered. Updated testing numbers are expected every Friday.
A staff person at the DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center also tested positive Thursday. In a Friday announcement, the center said that person is isolating at home and residents are being monitored for symptoms. The IDPH lists longterm care facility outbreaks, and as of Monday, does not list any facilities in DeKalb as the site of a COVID-19 outbreak.
COVID-19 testing is being conducted at Northwestern Medicine health system hospitals and private lab facilities, including through Physicians Immediate Care and the Center for Family Health in Sycamore, which are prioritizing high-risk patients, first responders and health care workers and those experiencing severe symptoms.
