Elks award scholarships to seniors, donate to charities

Sycamore Elks Lodge 1392 recently awarded scholarships totaling $4,500 to nine local 2020 high school graduates.

Receiving $500 awards were: Benjamin Brock, Alyssa Cooley, Halle Goff, Madison Klassen, Grant McConkey, Laramie O’Sullivan, Joseph Quinn, Evan Schultz and Riley Winburn.

In addition to the scholarships, Sycamore Elks donated $1,000 to Spartan Food Pantry; $500 to Opportunity House; $250 to JourneyCare Hospice; $250 to Pay-It-Forward House; and $250 to Salem Food Pantry. These donations were made possible by a grant program sponsored by the Elks National Foundation designated for the support of local charitable activities and community services.

Finally, Sycamore Elks Lodge donated 70 $15 gift certificates redeemable at Slow Smoke BBQ to the staff of Sycamore Police Department and Sycamore Fire Department in gratitude for their dedicated community service. This donation also was made possible by the ENF grant.
