DeKALB – A widely shared photograph on Facebook purportedly of two DeKalb police officers stating they had found a man’s phone that was dropped as he ran from them is not legitimate, police confirmed Monday.
A post to a Facebook account under the name Trace Drolema included a photo of two police officers, and included text that read, “Hey Trace Drolema you dropped your phone when you out ran us tonight,” and went on to talk about how the person had jumped fences to escape them and that the phone was now being held at the DeKalb police department.
The photo is actually of two Tulsa, Oklahoma, police officers, Sgt, Sean “Sticks” Larkin and Officer Brent Barnhart, who have appeared on the TV show “Live PD.”
A Google image search showed that the photograph has been posted in other places online, including a year ago on Reddit. DeKalb interim Police Chief John Petragallo confirmed there is no officer by the name Barnhart on the force.
Petragallo said he was unaware of the Facebook post when asked about it Monday afternoon.
