SYCAMORE – A fire in an apartment in the 1500 block of Timberwood Drive sent three to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital with minor injures, according to a news release from the Sycamore Fire Department.
Two residents of a four-unit apartment building and one firefighter were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the release states, and all residents of all four units were displaced from the fire, which caused about $250,000 worth of damage to the complex.
Firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire at 1542 Timberwood Court shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, and upon arrival, saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the front entrance and garage of the building, with flames seen coming through the roof.
Sycamore fire began evacuating the building and worked with crews from DeKalb, Elburn, Hampshire, Genoa-Kingston, Cortland, Hinckley, Malta, Somonauk, Maple Park, Burlington to fight the blaze, which was under control within 30 minutes, the release states.
Cleanup and attempts to salvage what remained lasted through the early morning hours Saturday. The apartment which caught fire suffered significant structural damage from fire, smoke, water, and the remaining units had correlating damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and displaced residents are receiving aid from the Red Cross.
