First Insurance Group of Plano donates to Open Door

SANDWICH – Joe Roberts, president of First Insurance Group of Plano, recently presented Gene Stephens, associate director of Open Door Rehabilitation Center, with a generous donation.

Contributions like the one made by First Insurance Group of Plano help in “Opening Doors & Developing Opportunities” for Open Door clients, enriching their quality of life by expanding experiences. Open Door provides services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities in order to promote independence, growth and quality of life.

“Since we are all staying at home more due to COVID-19, we’ve had an increased need for home entertainment at our group homes,” Open Door’s Executive Director Rita Potter said in a news release. “We will put these funds toward purchasing items such as games, outdoor entertainment, Netflix and craft supplies.”

Founded in 1963, Open Door operates a day workshop, a vocational training workshop and nine group homes all within the Sandwich community. Services and programs benefit individuals from DeKalb, Kendall and LaSalle counties. For information about Open Door, visit www.odrc.org.
