The DeKalb County Health Department reported four new cases of the novel coronavirus in the county on Wednesday as total cases reached 554, and cases in the city of DeKalb have now exceed 300.
The death toll remains at 18, with the majority connected to Pine Acres, which reports 12 deaths, 54 cases in residents and 23 in staff.
DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center still reports three cases, and Bethany Rehabilitation and Health Care Center has two. Both long-term care facilities are reporting cases among staff and not residents. It’s unknown whether any recoveries are linked to long-term care facilities.
There was one new case each in residents under 20, in their 20s, in their 30s and in their 50s. In total, 48 residents younger than 20 have tested positive, 129 in their 20s, 103 in their 30s, 86 in their 40s, 73 in their 50s, 39 in their 60s, 37 in their 70s and 39 older than 80.
The city of DeKalb reports between 301 and 305 cases.
There are between 66 to 70 cases in Sycamore, 56 to 60 in Sandwich, 41 to 45 cases in Genoa, 31 to 35 cases in Cortland, 11 to 15 cases in Hinckley, and six to 10 cases in Kirkland (up from Tuesday) Kingston and Somonauk. Esmond, Malta, Shabbona, Waterman and Maple Park each report one to five cases.
The Illinois Department of Public Health lists cases and tests performed by ZIP code, while the county health department lists cases by municipality. Numbers vary from state and health departments because of data lags.
The 60115 ZIP code (including DeKalb) had 295 cases reported and 3,576 tests administered. The 60178 ZIP Code (including Sycamore) had 66 cases and 1,445 tests. The 60112 ZIP code (including Cortland) had 28 cases and 335 tests. The 60135 ZIP code (including Genoa) had 39 cases and 534 tests, the 60145 ZIP code (including Kingston) had seven cases and 125 tests, and the 60146 ZIP code (including Kirkland) had nine cases and 177 tests.
In total, IDPH reported 138.540 people in Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19, while 6,770 people have died statewide. As of Monday, 1,428,841 tests have been performed. The site also lists statewide recovery rates, calculated by recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and dead cases. It remains at 94%.
According to information released Friday, 330 residents countywide have fully recovered from the viral respiratory disease as of Friday, New recovery numbers are expected at the end of the week. As of Friday, out of the total 9,198 tests performed on DeKalb County residents, 8,662 tests came back negative for a positivity rate of 5.8%.
DeKalb County is now expected to enter Phase 4 of Gov. JB Pritzker’s Restore Illinois plan on Friday. Criteria needed to move forward includes on-contact tracing – how health care professionals track who a COVID-19 positive patient may have exposed and when – and testing capabilities.
