Fourth of July fireworks show in Shabbona canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic

SHABBONA – The annual Fourth of July fireworks show over Lake Shabbona has been canceled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though organizers hope to return to normal in 2021.

“We are sad to say we are not able to shoot fireworks over Shabbona lake this year,” read a social media post by the Shabbona Fireworks committee. “We hoped we could put it together but not enough confirmations (state has not yet approved our request to use the park to shoot fireworks) to make this work. The Shabbona Firework committee hopes you are doing well in this challenging situation and we hope to see you July 4th. 2021.”

Firework shows and large summer events, including the annual Hopkins Park show in DeKalb, have been canceled throughout DeKalb County due to crowd control stipulations from the state regarding the pandemic.
