Girls basketball: Prairie Ridge’s Karsen Karlblom advances to IHSA’s ‘Three-Point Showdown’ state competition

Prairie Ridge senior guard Karsen Karlblom put on a shooting display Thursday, making 12-of-15 3-pointers at the Class 3A Grayslake Central Sectional to advance to the IHSA’s “Three-Point Showdown” on March 5 at Illinois State’s Redbird Arena in Normal.

Karlblom, the Wolves’ all-time leader in career points and 3s, made the most 3s at the Grayslake Sectional, beating Deerfield freshman Nikki Kerstein (11) by one.

Karlblom ended the regular season with a team-record 88 3s, leading the Wolves to their first regional title since 2014 with a 32-30 win against Cary-Grove in the Class 3A Grayslake Central Regional championship. Prairie Ridge finished with an area-best record of 27-6.

Karlblom will be the only local player in this year’s state competition.

Also shooting Thursday but not advancing were Burlington Central’s Rylie Duval and Page Erickson, Cary-Grove’s Aubrey Lonergan, Crystal Lake Central’s Katie Hamill and Paige Keller, Dundee-Crown’s Ava Gatenby, Hampshire’s Ashley Herzing, Huntley’s Jessie Ozzauto, Jacobs’ Mackenzie Leahy, Johnsburg’s Macy Madsen, Marengo’s Bella Frohling, Prairie Ridge’s Amanda Mueller and Elani Nanos, and Woodstock North’s Avery Crabill and Lacey Schaffter.
