Girls Scouts of Northern Illinois cancels in-person summer camps, offers virtual outdoor experiences

Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois announced that it has canceled in-person summer camp programs for the rest of the camping season because of COVID-19, including Camp Dean in Big Rock, Camp McCormick in Stillman Valley and Camp Far Horizons in Hanover.

“The health and safety of girls is always the first priority in Girl Scouts,” the organization said in a news release.

Girl Scouts will instead offer virtual outdoor experiences for both members and nonmembers. Cost is $50 per week for members and $75 for nonmembers. Geocaching boxes are included in the cost and will be shipped to campers.

Girl Scouts will offer the following virtual outdoor experiences this summer: The Great Girl Scout Campout, June 22-26; Artists Outdoors, June 29-July 3; Observe Your World and Beyond, July 6-10; Mad Scientist, July 13-17, Lessons From Big Foot, July 20-24; Slay the Dragons, July 27-31.

The Girls Scouts of Northern Illinois serve 16 counties, including parts or all of Boone, Carroll, Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Jo Daviess, Kane, Kendall, Lake, La Salle, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside and Winnebago.
