Batavia MainStreet announced it will present “For the Love of Local Weekend” as a thank you to the community for all the support over the last year. Joe Gagnepain of Art by Joseph will create ice sculptures at the Peg Bond Center from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13.
With the majority of Downtown Batavia events cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic, MainStreet is excited to offer a fun, socially distanced activity, a news release stated.
“We want to show some love to the community by offering a unique experience,” said Beth Walker, executive director of Batavia MainStreet. “‘For the Love of Local Weekend’ provides a way to connect with one another when our options are so limited.”
Gerald Subaru of North Aurora, a longtime supporter of MainStreet, happily jumped on board, along with Batavia Park District to help make this event happen, organizers said. To add to the fun, Gerald has created a Snapchat filter for visitors to chronicle their time in downtown Batavia.
“Come watch these creations come to life, visit a shop, and enjoy a bite at one of the Downtown restaurants,” the release stated.
The riverside Peg Bond Center is at 151 N. Island Ave. For more information, visit downtownbatavia.com.
