IDPH announces 2,352 new cases of COVID-19, 75 deaths on Saturday

Illinois announced 75 additional deaths from COVID-19 and 2,352 more confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus on Saturday.

The Illinois Department of Public Health said that 9.4% of 25,114 total tests in the previous 24 hours came back positive.

The state has a seven-day rolling positivity rate of 13%. Illinois has now seen 107,796 total cases of the virus and 4,790 people have died. A total of 722,247 people have been tested.

Illinois has a 92% recovery rate, defined as the recovered cases divided by the sum of recovered cases and deceased cases.

As of late Friday, Illinois had 3,753 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 1,027 were in the ICU and 607 were on ventilators. The state had 11,729 open hospital beds.

Newly reported deaths include 59 in Cook County, four in Will, three in Madison and Winnebago, two each in DuPage and Kane, and one each in Lake and Macon.

As of Saturday, Chicago has seen 41,402 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while the rest of Cook County has seen 29,015.

Lake County has seen 7,465 confirmed cases, DuPage 6,891, Will 5,012, Kane 5,484, McHenry 1,360, Kendall 689, DeKalb 309, Ogle 185, La Salle 134, Whiteside 133, Lee 76, Grundy 87, Bureau 15 and Carroll 13.

All four of the state’s health care regions remain on track to advance to Phase 3 of Gov. JB Pritzker’s Restore Illinois plan.

The Northeast region (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, McHenry, Lake and Will counties) had a positivity rate average of 15.5%. The region also had an average of 21.8% of medical/surgical beds available, 24% of ICU beds available and 63.7% of ventilators available.

The North Central region (Bureau, DeKalb, La Salle, Lee, Ogle, Whiteside, Carroll, Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, Putnam and Jo Daviess counties) had a positivity rate average of 6.2%. On average, there was an availability of 39.3% of medical/surgical beds, 40.6% of ICU beds and 59.2% of ventilators.

The Central region had an average positivity rate of 3%. On average, there was an availability of 49.1% of medical/surgical beds, 49.1% of ICU beds and 80.1% of ventilators.

The Southern region had an average positivity rate of 4.7%. On average, there was an availability of 45.2% of medical/surgical beds, 40.7% of ICU beds and 77% of ventilators.

Regions must hit the following thresholds to move on to the next phase in the Restore Illinois plan:

At or under a 20 percent positivity rate and increasing no more than 10 percentage points over a 14-day period, AND

No overall increase (i.e. stability or decrease) in hospital admissions for COVID-19-like illness for 28 days, AND

Available surge capacity of at least 14 percent of ICU beds, medical and surgical beds, and ventilators.
