Illinois announces 57 more deaths, 1,656 new cases of coronavirus

Illinois announced 57 additional deaths and 1,656 more cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The IDPH reported 12.1% of 13,653 total tests in the previous 24 hours came back positive. Illinois has now seen 77,741 total cases of the virus and 3,406 people have died. A total of 429,984 people have been tested.

Newly reported deaths included 52 in Cook County. Additionally, one person each died in Kane, Kankakee, Peoria, St. Clair and Winnebago counties.

As of late Saturday night, Illinois had 4,293 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those,1,232 patients were in the ICU and 709 were on ventilators. The state had 10,905 open hospital beds.

As of Thursday, Chicago has seen 30,950 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while the rest of Cook County has seen 21,705.

Lake County has seen 5,245 confirmed cases, DuPage 4,603, Will 3,684, Kane 3,003, McHenry 945, Kendall 421, DeKalb 184, Ogle 149, Whiteside 104, La Salle 105, Lee 63, Grundy 58, Bureau 14 and Carroll 11.

Gov. JB Pritzker did not hold daily press briefings over the weekend. He will be back Monday for his daily update.
