Illinois sees single-digit COVID-19 deaths for 2nd consecutive day

For the second consecutive day, Illinois recorded six deaths from COVID-19. The state saw 614 new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The last time Illinois saw fewer than 10 coronavirus deaths on consecutive days was March 26 and 27.

The Illinois Department of Public Health indicated that 2.9% of 21,134 total tests in the previous 24 hours came back positive.

The state’s seven-day rolling positivity rate is 2.6%. Illinois has now seen 147,865 total cases of the virus and 7,026 people have died. A total of 1,782,840 people have been tested.

As of late Sunday night, Illinois had 1,395 COVID-19 patients in the hospital. Of those, 321 were in the ICU and 151 were on ventilators. That is the fewest number of COVID-19 patients on a ventilator since IDPH started making that data public, but hospitalizations did rise by 69 patients and ICU patients went up by 17. The state had more than 15,000 open hospital beds.

Regional update: As of Sunday, the Northeast region (Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, McHenry, Lake and Will counties) reported a positivity rate average of 4%. The region reported an average of 34% of medical/surgical beds available, 44% of ICU beds available and 74% of ventilators available.

The North Central region (Bureau, DeKalb, La Salle, Lee, Ogle, Whiteside, Carroll, Boone, Winnebago, Stephenson, Putnam and Jo Daviess counties) reported a positivity rate rolling average of 3%. On average, the region has enough medical/surgical beds to accommodate a 47% surge in COVID-19 cases. The region reported that 57% of ICU beds are available and 78% of ventilators are available.

The Central region reported an average positivity rate of 2%. On average, there was an availability of 41% of medical/surgical beds, 50% of ICU beds and 77% of ventilators.

The Southern region had an average positivity rate of 4%. On average, there was an availability of 45% of medical/surgical beds, 48% of ICU beds and 80% of ventilators.

Newly reported deaths include:

– Champaign County: 1 female 70s, 1 male 80s

– Cook County: 2 male 60s, 1 female 80s

– DeKalb County: 1 female 90
