Illinois surpasses 40K coronavirus cases; IDPH announces 80 additional deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Saturday 80 new deaths due to COVID-19 and 2,119 additional cases, bringing the total number of the cases in the state to 41,777.

There have been a total of 1,874 COVID-19 deaths, and 201,617 people have been tested. There were 11,985 more tests since Friday. Illinois received results from more than 16,000 tests between Thursday and Friday.

As of Saturday, Chicago has seen 17,109 confirmed cases of COVID-19, while the rest of Cook County has seen 11,949.

Lake County has seen 2,879 confirmed cases, DuPage 2,311, Will 2,060, Kane 1,049, McHenry 502, Kendall 203, Ogle 85, DeKalb 71, Whiteside 59, La Salle 43, Grundy 28, Lee 19, Bureau nine and Carroll nine.

Newly reported deaths Friday included 46 deaths in Cook County. Ten people died Lake, six in Will, five in St. Clair, two each in DuPage, Kankakee, Monroe, and one each in Coles, Jersey, Macon, Madison, McHenry, Whiteside and Winnebago.

Ninety-six of 102 Illinois’ counties have a confirmed case of coronavirus.
