Immanuel Lutheran Church and Student Center to dedicate new prayer walk Sunday

DeKalb – Immanuel Lutheran Church and Student Center, home to several ministries including Little Lambs Preschool, is having a dedication and blessing of their new prayer walk on Sunday, Aug. 23.

The dedication will be on Facebook Live after the 8 a.m. worship service. After the dedication, the video will also be posted on the church’s website.

The Immanuel Prayer Team and Outreach Board spent considerable time this summer brainstorming ideas of ways to be of service and offer comfort to people during the pandemic, while remaining socially distanced.

Linda Hursh and Jackie Hanson, co-chairs of the project felt that, “We need reassurance through prayer. We need to be in prayer. We praise our God through our prayers and are closer to him. We want the comfort that our ever-present God gives us through his word and prayer. Sometimes we may need guidance in our prayers because of stress, as well as many other reasons.”

The prayer walk is a walking tour of the church property with the goal of feeling peace and calm and close to God while walking and praying. There will be signs with Bible verses on them and prayer ideas to accompany the verses. There is a longer walk, which takes about 20 minutes, or a shorter loop for those who are just looking for a short walk and some quiet time.

The prayer walk begins by the garden on the northwest corner of the parking lot, opposite the main doors. It can also begin at the playground area by the picnic tables. Twenty different signs are on the trees and on the ground. Easy directions can be found along with a map just inside the church entrance. There is also a plan to place brochures at both of the start points.

Everyone is invited to the prayer walk and can bring a chair or sit on a blanket to stay and relax for a bit. Social distancing and masks are recommended.

The prayer walk will be taken down on Oct. 31 for the winter months and will return in the spring.
