Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District employees honored at Wisconsin conference

DeKALB – Two employees of the Kishwaukee Water Reclamation District have returned from Wisconsin after being recognized for their leadership and environmental stewardship.

According to a news release from the reclamation district, Steve Olsen, KRWD operations’ manager and Class 1 wastewater operator, along with Mike Holland, district engineer and assistant manager, received awards at the 2019 Central States Water Environment Association annual conference in Madison, Wisconsin.

Holland received the 2019 Arthur Sidney Bedell Award for Extraordinary Personal Service, which is a lifetime achievement award. At 38, Holland is the youngest recipient in the award’s 94-year history to receive it at the association conference, the release said.

The district recognized Holland’s efforts to promote environmental stewardship and the value of water, according to the release.

Olsen was awarded the 2019 Illinois Operator of the Year Award, for his leadership, innovative vision and environmental stewardship, the release said.

Chosen for the award by a group of his peers from Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin, Olsen, who began working at the district in 1980, is a lifelong resident of DeKalb, according to the release.
