DeKALB – A man shot early Monday morning on Sycamore Road in DeKalb is expected to recover, police said.
The investigation continues into who shot the man, DeKalb Deputy Police Chief Jason Leverton said. DeKalb police have two people detained and and are questioning them in connection with the shooting, Leverton said.
“There have been no charges filed yet,” Leverton said.
Police were called at about 12:15 a.m. Monday regarding a shooting in the 1100 block of Sycamore Road, Leverton said. The call came from a man who police then found in the 700 block of Krpan Court.
Leverton said the victim suffered two apparent gunshot wounds, one to the hip area and what responding officers described as a graze to the hand. The man initially was transported to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb but later was flown to OSF St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford over concerns of possible internal organ damage, Leverton said.
The shooting victim’s condition was unclear, but Leverton said he’s expected to recover.
Police believe the shooting was the result of an altercation that took place in the 1100 block of Sycamore Road, Leverton said.
“A lot of those details are still being investigated,” Leverton said.
Leverton said the male is believed to be the only victim from the incident. He said police don’t believe there is any further threat to the public as of late Monday morning.
Leverton urged anyone with any information related to the incident to contact DeKalb police via the department’s non-emergency number at 815-895-2155.
