McHenry County Sheriff’s police shot an armed man in Harvard during a well-being check Friday night, leaving him in critical condition at a Rockford hospital, according to an agency news release.
Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 8 p.m. Friday to a residence in the 19900 block of Streit Road, according to a Saturday news release. When police arrived, the man came out of the residence with a firearm and “an armed confrontation occurred.”
“The deputies discharged their firearms, ultimately striking the subject. No deputies were injured during the confrontation,” according to the press release.
Lifesaving measures were provided to the man who was not identified. He was transported by Harvard Fire Protection District to Mercy Harvard Hospital. From Harvard, he was flown to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford where he remains in critical condition, according to the release.
It was unclear from the release how many deputies shot him or whether the man lived at the home where he was shot.
McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team (MIAT) will be handling the investigation.
