Motorists in McHenry, Lake, Boone and Winnebago counties should be prepared for up to an inch of snow accumulation, and up to 2 inches near Interstate 90, by the end of the Monday evening commute, the National Weather Service said just before noon, noting that low temperatures will make road treatments less effective.
“Drivers can expect to encounter slipper road conditions into this evening,” the service said in a special weather statement.
Drivers should reduce their speeds and increase their following distance when trailing other vehicles while traveling snow-covered roads, the agency advised.
Drivers should stay tuned to driving conditions, the National Weather Service said, adding it may issue a winter weather advisory.
A winter weather advisory, warning of 1 to 3 inches of snow, was also issued for Ogle and Lee counties east through Kane, DuPage, Cook and Will counties and into northwestern Indiana.
