McHenry man killed, three others injured in Wauconda Township crash involving dump truck

A 59-year-old McHenry man was killed in a crash involving a dump truck just after 8 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Wilson Road and Route 60 in Wauconda Township. Three others were injured, according to a Lake County Sheriff’s Office news release.

A preliminary investigation showed that a 2018 Chevrolet Trax driven by a 24-year-old Ingleside man was traveling southbound on Wilson approaching Route 60, and did not stop at a stop sign. The vehicle pulled into the path of a westbound Peterbilt Semi-Truck pulling a trailer, the release said.

The McHenry man, who was not identified in the release, was driving a Ram ProMaster Van eastbound, and his vehicle was struck by the Peterbilt after the Peterbilt hit the Chevrolet, the release said. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the release said.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A 31-year-old male passenger in the McHenry man’s vehicle from Kenosha, Wisconsin was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Peterbilt, a 50-year old Berwyn man, was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and an autopsy on the driver of the Ram is being scheduled.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
