SYCAMORE – Funeral services for Barry Schrader, former Daily Chronicle editor and local newspaperman, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sycamore United Methodist Church though capacity requirements will be enforced due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Schrader, who was editor from 1969 to 1972 and later a regular columnist, died June 30 at age 79 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
The memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. at the church, 160 Johnson Ave. in Sycamore, and conclude at Oak Crest Retirement Center, 2944 Greenwood Acres Drive in DeKalb.
Only 87 people will be allowed in the church on a first-come, first-serve basis, according to organizers, due to social distancing requirements which limit seating. Temperatures will also be taken at the door.
Those unable to attend are invited to watch the ceremony which will be streamed live on Schrader’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/barryschrader815. The video will then be uploaded to a memorial page on YouTube.
His ashes will be interred at Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore and also near Yosemite National Park, his favorite vacation destination. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to help fund historical markers throughout the county.
Because of COVID-19 and health concerns, Schrader’s widow, Kay Schrader, will not be able to interact with attendees at the memorial service but those wishing to send her a video message to help remember Barry are invited to do so and send it to rememberbarryschrader@gmail.com.
