DeKALB – The driver of a Freightliner semitrailer has been charged in a crash that resulted in him and three other people being taken to the hospital Thursday, shutting down a portion of Route 38 for hours between Peace and Somonauk roads.
Timothy L. Still, 43, of the 13000 block of Bathgate Road, Polo, Missouri, was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash after police said he did not stop his truck in time for another car to make a southbound turn off Route 38 about 1 p.m. Thursday.
The injured, including a small child, were taken to Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, said Lt. Jim Burgh of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said that stretch of Route 38 was closed for hours as crews worked to clear the road after the crash.
Burgh said a white Honda CR-V was heading west on Route 38 when the driver, a Sugar Grove woman accompanied by a small child in a car seat, stopped to turn on Webster Road.
Siller’s truck did not stop behind her in time and rear-ended the Honda, Burgh said. When the truck rear-ended the Honda, it pushed the CR-V into oncoming traffic, sideswiping a black Chevrolet Malibu driven by a man going east on Route 38.
Burgh said an Illinois State trooper helped conduct the investigation into the crash.
