DeKALB – A DeKalb resident who ran for Congress two years ago is now looking for a seat on the county board.
Neill Mohammad, 38, announced Monday that he was running to succeed Paul Stoddard, D-DeKalb, in representing the 9th District on the board. Mohammad ran in 2018 for the Democratic nomination for the Illinois 16th Congressional District. He came in second to Sara Dady of Rockford, who then lost to incumbent Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon, in the November General Election.
Stoddard is not running for reelection for county board to focus on his run for for the statehouse, challenging incumbent Jeff Keicher, R-Sycamore, for the 70th District, according to a news release.
Mohammad highlighted his private-sector experience in the release.
“I’m just hopeful to have the opportunity to take what I’ve learned in the private sector, particularly regarding rural medical care and public health, and make a positive contribution to our community,” he said in the release.
He currently works as a consultant for rural hospitals across the country, according to the news release, “helping them to manage the skyrocketing cost of prescription drugs in order to better serve their patients and communities.”
Mohammad graduated valedictorian of DeKalb High School in 1999, earned degrees in political science and computer science from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and a P.h.D in political science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.
Mohammad is so far the only candidate to announce a run for the 9th District seat.
