Motorcyclist hit in Cary crash

A tractor hit a motorcycle Tuesday morning on Silver Lake Road at Oriole Trail in Cary. The motorcyclist suffered minor injuries from the crash.

The crash happened at 8:49 a.m., said Cary police Deputy Chief Jim Fillmore.

The tractor, being driven by 55-year-old Cortland resident Richard Hunt, was traveling south on Silver Lake Road. Hunt made a wide turn onto Oriole Trail to dump a load of dirt for construction.

The motorcyle, being driven by Cary resident Raymond DiMatteo, 22, was traveling north. DiMatteo tried to avoid the tractor, but was unable to. The motorcyle was struck by the tractor and it slid to a stop in the intersection, Fillmore said.

Fillmore said the motorcyclist’s injuries were not life-threatening. The operator of the tractor was cited for making an improper left turn.

Traffic was disrupted for about 20 minutes, Fillmore said.

Correction: This story has been updated to correct the motorcyclist’s name and to add the citation for the operator of the tractor.
