Newest judge of 23rd Judicial Circuit has DeKalb connections

SYCAMORE – A federal prosecutor from Malta will have a new job Wednesday after he is sworn in as an associate judge of the 23rd Judicial Circuit.

Joe Pedersen, formerly with the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Northern District of Illinois in Rockford, will begin his new role as a judge Aug 1.

He’s worked in Rockford for 17 years and also has time in the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office, working there for about six years between 1997 and 2002.

Pedersen received his undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University in 1991 and his law degree from University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1995.

He will replace Judge William Brady, who retired last month after 16 years as a judge and 45 years in the law.

The ceremony will take place at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Courtroom 300 of the DeKalb County Courthouse, located at 133 W. State St., Sycamore.
