The No. 1 ranked team in the state will be on display in the Class 3A LaSalle-Peru Sectional girls basketball tournament tonight.
Geneseo (31-1), which beat Rock Island, 62-48, to capture its own regional title and avenge its only loss of the year, will face No. 5 Washington (22-5) at 7:30 p.m. in Tuesday’s semifinals. The Maple Leafs seek their first sectional title since 1987.
The first semifinal of the night will pit two perennial powerhouses when No. 3 seed Galesburg (22-10) squares off against No. 4 Morton (23-6) at 6 p.m.
Galesburg beat Dixon 40-37 for the regional title at Sterling after knocking out La Salle-Peru 63-43 in the semifinals. The Silver Streaks have won 26 regional championships and 10 sectionals, seeking its first sectional in 11 years.
Morton beat Peoria Richwoods, 47-34, for the Peoria Regional title. The Potters won four state championships from 2015-19 and have won eight sectionals since 2007.
