SYCAMORE – This Saturday, the Sycamore Park District is inviting community members to celebrate the extra day this Leap Year by spending it on themselves. A Self Care Fair will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Community Center, 480 South Airport Road.
Sarah Rex, recreation supervisor for the park district, said that there are more than 30 vendors coming for the event,
Counselors and wellness specialists, hair and nail shops and the Sycamore Public Library will have a table as well, checking out books on self-care using a mobile check out system.
Vendors were told to not just hand out freebies, Rex said, but to offer visitors and experience. Vendors will also be donating prizes for raffles that will be held all day. The first 100 visitors of legal age also will receive a mimosa.
The event will be free and open to the public, Rex said. Visitors will be able to walk the track at the Community Center gym.
In a nod to the Leap Day, from 9:29 to 10:29 a.m., there will be a special gathering for Leapers, those born Feb 29. The event will be presented by Dr. Heather Breuer and Sycamore Park District Executive Director Daniel Gibble. Both of are celebrating their 15th birthday that day.
Rex said the park district reached out to local schools get students and their families notified about the event so they could come and participate.
People are invited to bring a gift. Organizers plan to make gift baskets to any local babies born on Saturday.
