Princeton Area Chamber & Tourism and Bureau County Fair team up to plan 2021 Christmas Light Spectacular

PRINCETON — The Bureau County Fair and Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce & Princeton Tourism have teamed up to put on the first-ever drive-thru Christmas Light Spectacular.

Planning is already underway and the two organizations are now seeking light sponsorships for the display from local businesses and families.

Lighted displays can range in price from a few hundred dollars to $1,000 and even more, depending on the display.

Sponsors will be responsible for their light cost and an additional $125 to help cover any shipping costs and signage. All light displays will be made with LED lights. After that initial, first investment, the Bureau County Fair and Princeton Area Chamber and Tourism will be responsible for the maintenance and storage of the lights, along with set up and tear down each year. Whereafter both entities will retain ownership of all light displays.

Donations are also being accepted to cover expenses not often thought about. For example, electrical and building supplies, maintenance, signage, snow removal, storage costs and the electric bill itself. All sponsors and donors will be recognized throughout the season and in any advertising campaigns.

In a sponsorship letter recently sent out to Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce members, Jenica Cole, executive director of the Princeton Area Chamber of Commerce & Princeton Tourism, and Kyle Burrows, president of the Bureau County Fair Board, stated, “Christmas is truly the most wonderful time of the year! We tend to reflect upon the year that is ending and contemplate how we will live in the year ahead. But no matter what the past and future bring to our lives, we tend to focus on the ‘light’ during the holiday season.”

The two are hopeful to make this event a yearly tradition for the city of Princeton and Bureau County area.

When will the spectacular light up?

The event will open Saturday, Dec. 4, and run Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings through Sunday, Jan. 1. Hours will be from 5 to 9 p.m.

Traffic will enter at the south gate of the fairgrounds from Route 6 and wind through the fairgrounds, exiting onto West Crown Street. The Bureau County Fairgrounds is located at 811 W. Peru St. in Princeton.
