Pritzker mandates gatherings of 50 or more people be canceled

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker announced Monday that he is mandating that all gatherings of 50 or more people be canceled throughout the state to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Pritzker announced the measure at his daily COVID-19 press briefing on Monday in Springfield. That recommendation mirrors a CDC guideline released Sunday night.

State officials announced an additional 12 confirmed cases Monday, raising the state’s total to 105, some of whom have already recovered. Those 12 additional confirmed cases include two new counties: Will County and Peoria County. There are 15 confirmed counties with COVID-19 cases.

The limit on gatherings comes a day after Pritzker announced Sunday that all bars and restaurants will close for on-site consumption, starting at 9 p.m. Monday through March 30.
