SYCAMORE – The first candidate for the position of DeKalb County circuit clerk has announced she is running for the post in the next election.
DeKalb Republican Savannah Ilenikhena is looking to win the job currently held by Republican Maureen Josh. Josh announced in June that she would not be running for reelection after holding the office since 1984.
“I feel like this is something I’ve looked forward to for a long time,” Ilenikhena said. “I think this is just a great time for me to be able to do that.”
Ilenikhena currently works as the opioid diversion coordinator with DeKalb County Court Services. Previously, she’s worked in the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office as well as Focus House and Safe Passage. At Safe Passage, she was the director of abuse intervention services.
Ilenikhena said she’s looking for her first meet-and-greet in October, although details are still being hammered out. She said she’s spoken to members of the DeKalb County Republican Central Committee and has received encouraging words.
Ilenikhena has a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University and a master’s degree in forensic psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She also attended Kishwaukee College. She currently lives in DeKalb with her husband and 4-month-old son.
