SHS student a semifinalist in Illinois Tollway map contest

Sandwich High School sophomore Yuki Chen has been named a semifinalist in the 2020 Illinois Tollway Map Cover Art contest.

According to a press release from the Illinois Tollway, the contest is “recognizing the distinguished work done by the Illinois State Police patrolling tollways and state highways, protecting and assisting drivers, despite the risks they face themselves,” in the wake of the deaths of several state troopers in 2019.

Artwork created by the grand prize winner will be featured on the cover of the tollway’s 2020 map, distributed at no cost to 75,000 customers. The grand prize winner and three runners-up will be featured in the tollway’s annual report.

The grand prize winner will receive a $400 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials and $200 in gift certificates to use at retail shops and restaurants located at toll oases. The runners-up will receive a $200 gift certificate to Blick Art Materials and $100 in gift certificates to use at shops and restaurants at toll oases.

The public can visit the Illinois Tollway’s website art contest page at www.illinoistollway.com to view the work of Chen and the other semifinalists and vote for their favorite on the Illinois Tollway’s Facebook page.

Voting ends Monday.
