State Rep. Keicher appointed to Property Tax Relief Task Force

DeKALB – State Rep. Jeff Keicher has been appointed to serve on the new Property Tax Relief Task Force responsible for proposing solutions to achieve meaningful property tax relief for Illinois homeowners.

“Everywhere I go, people talk to me about the high cost of property taxes and how it impacts their family or their business,” the Sycamore Republican said in a news release. “Families cannot achieve or maintain the dream of homeownership, and seniors on fixed incomes cannot afford to stay in their homes unless we take action and reform the system.

“I am committed to leveraging my role on this task force to work toward realistic solutions that reduce the property tax burden on local families in a meaningful and lasting way.”

Keicher’s appointment to the task force was made by House Minority Leader Jim Durkin, R-Western Springs. Appointments were made from both houses of the General Assembly, and the task force has both Democrat and Republican members.

The task force will look at the root causes of of income inequality throughout the state and use a “racial and economic equity lens to to identify the causes of increasingly burdensome property taxes across Illinois,” according to the bill making the task force.

It will create a report on short- and long-term approaches the state can take, with the first due within 90 days, and the final report due by the end of 2019.
