Sycamore City Council approves more than $54,000 for wastewater plant project

SYCAMORE – A Sycamore Wastewater Treatment Plant project, begun about a year ago, will get four change orders for the construction.

The project is slated for completion in the fall of 2020, said Sycamore City Manager Brian Gregory.

“We’re a little over halfway into our wastewater treatment plant projects,” he said.

The four change order requests, with a total cost of $54,381.1, will require no extra construction time. They were passed by the council with a 7-0 vote.

The requests include modifications to the siding from a vinyl material to a 24-gauge commercial grade siding consistent with the existing buildings for $37,657 and modifications to structural steel for stairs at the Sequencing Batch Reactor Tank and Building that costs $7,930, increased thickness of precast concrete blanks to accommodate blower equipment loading for $5,922 and additional grounding rod and cable for the Sequencing Batch Reactor Tank and Building for $2,870.

FOIA Officers

The city council approved Sycamore City Manager Brian Gregory’s recommendation to keep the same Freedom of Information Act officers from 2019. Mary Kalk and Adam Orton will remain city-wide FOIA officers, Mary Banasiak, will remain FOIA office for Sycamore Police Department, and Kevin Buick will be the Open Meetings Act officer.

State law requires municipalities and other governmental agencies to pick at least one person to handle FOIA requests. The FOIA officers are required to complete electronic training on an annual basis through the Illinois Attorney General’s office.

The city council also approved an amendment to the city code for a stop sign at the intersection of Motel Road and West Motel Road ahead of the development of the Fowler Farms subdivision on Motel Road.
