Sycamore Education Foundation announces new business scholarship for Sycamore graduates

SYCAMORE – Donna J. Lyons Bukowski, a former Sycamore High School graduate who spent her life in business as an interior designer, will be remembered with a scholarship in her name.

The Sycamore Education Foundation announced the Donna J. Bukowski Memorial Scholarship, a $250 scholarship that will be available to a 2020 Sycamore High School graduate, on Thursday, a Sycamore Education Foundation news release states.

The graduate must show leadership ability and a passion for business and entrepreneurship. The student must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and plan to enroll in an accredited college, university or certified trade program.

Before Bukowski graduated from Sycamore High School in 1984, she was a member of the Sycamore Future Farmers of America chapter, where she focused on greenhouse production of flowers and ornamental plants. While in high school, she built a small greenhouse on her parents’ farm and started designing wedding flowers.

Bukowski spent her career as an interior designer. She started selling wallpaper and drapery door to door, and then later owned and ran several interior design businesses.

Her sister Dawn Lyons-Dean said Bukowski was always a standout in their family.

“She not only succeeded, she wanted others to succeed too.”
