SYCAMORE – The Sycamore Education Foundation will host its annual fundraising event, Take Root, on Saturday, Sept. 12. However because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year it will feature a virtual twist.
The evening of events will include a pickup dinner, online silent auction and a live program with local bands, student performances and guest interviews that will be broadcast on SpartanTV, YouTube and Facebook Live. Ideal Industries is the presenting sponsor of Virtual Take Root.
“The Sycamore Education Foundation supports innovative educational opportunities for Sycamore Community School District 427,” Lauren Holtz, SEF executive director, said in a news release. “This fundraising event enables us to raise money to fund our grants program annually. During the past school year, we awarded over $35,000 in grant funding to support Sycamore schools.”
The pick-up dinner, provided by Catering by Diann, will be held at the Sycamore High School circle drive from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Meal tickets cost $15 per person. Dinner options include: pork chop, half slab of ribs, chicken, or mac and cheese. The deadline for pre-orders is Monday, Sept. 7. Only a limited number of meals will be available for purchase after that date.
The live program will kick off at 7 p.m. on SpartanTV (Comcast Channel 14), YouTube and Facebook Live. Performances from local bands will include: Back Country Roads, Mathey Music, Company Men, E. Norm & Us, Dreadnaughts and more. The program also will feature a segment honoring the 2020 Sycamore High School Distinguished Alumni: Ken Mundy, Jeanne Malnati and Dr. James McCarter.
