Sycamore garbage can fire causes $5,000 damage to home

SYCAMORE – A fire outside of a Sycamore home Tuesday morning is estimated to have caused $5,000 in damage and did not result in any injuries.

The Sycamore Fire Department responded at 8:51 a.m. to a garbage can fire that spread to the siding of a residence at 1016 Bristol Drive East.

The fire mostly was extinguished when the fire crew arrived, according to a Sycamore Fire Department news release.

Upon arrival, the fire department found the fire that had been doused by the homeowner with a garden hose and by a Sycamore Police Officer with a dry chemical extinguisher. Sycamore fire crews remained on the scene for about 30 minutes.

The fire appears to have started in the garbage can and caught the siding of the house on fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the news release.

There were no injuries to firefighters or residents.
