Sycamore Police announce parking rule changes for Pumpkin Fest

SYCAMORE – Watch where you park in Sycamore this weekend as Sycamore police announced no-parking zones ahead of the annual Pumpkin Festival.

Sycamore Police will tow any vehicle found in the zones, which include the parade route, the detour routes and the band staging route, a news release said.

The Sycamore Pumpkin Run 10K Road Race begins at 9:05 a.m. Sunday on East State Street near Kishwaukee Drive, and will cause some traffic disruption until runners clear the race route, according to the release.

The detour route for vehicles traveling east on State Street will be north on North Sacramento Street to West Page Street; east on Page Street to North Main Street; south on North Main Street to Sycamore Street; east on East Sycamore Street to Sabin Street; south on Sabin Street to Swanson Street; east on Swanson Street to Kingsway Drive; and south on Kingsway Drive back to East State Street. Westbound traffic uses the same detour pattern in reverse order.

Sycamore Police is encouraging participants who drive to the race to park at the Sycamore Park’s East ball diamonds on Airport Road.

Parade Rules

There will be no parking on the parade route, which includes Somonauk from Borden Street to West Elm Street; West Elm Street to South California Street; South California Street to West State Street; West State Street to Main Street; and then South Main Street to Lincoln Street, which is where the parade ends.

No one will be able park at the intersection of South Locust Street and Commercial Street to allow bypass traffic during the parade and to allow parade entries a route out of Sycamore.

The detour route for westbound traffic on Route 64 is north on North Walnut Street to East Sycamore Street; west to North Main Street, north to Page Street, west on Page Street to Sacramento Street and south on Sacramento Street to State Street. Eastbound traffic uses the same detour pattern in reverse order.

The parade detour route, headed southbound, will be south on South Sacramento Street to west High Street; east to Park Avenue; south on Park to Georjean Street; and east on Georjean Street to Somonauk Street. The opposite pattern exists for northbound traffic.

The parade staging area of Borden Avenue, South Prairie Drive and Thornwood Drive will be marked “no parking,” and access will be limited to parade vehicles and participants only.

Bands participating in the parade will park school buses on Turner Place, Reckitt Street and Wild Street between Reckitt and Kerr streets. The bands will stage on Vance and Townsend streets. No parking will be allowed, and access will be limited to parade vehicles and participants only.

Police note that it will be difficult for local residents to leave or enter this area after 11 a.m. Sunday, the release said.

Handicapped-accessible parking will be available Wednesday to Sunday in the Sycamore Library parking lot. After close of business at the DeKalb County Courthouse, 10 handicapped spots will be available from 4 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Sunday behind the courthouse.

During the parade, a handicapped parking area will be in the 100 block of North Main Street. A handicapped viewing area for the parade will be at the intersection of State and Main streets.
