Sycamore Police pursue man suspected of stealing truck

SYCAMORE – Sycamore police say a Chicago man, who got in an argument with local residents, wound up stealing a truck Friday and led police on a chase down the tollway. The chase ended in Aurora where police arrested the man.

Ivan M. Class, 43, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle after Sycamore police and Illinois State Police found him.

Sycamore Police Deputy Chief Steve Cook said his department received a 911 call at 3:22 p.m. Friday from a residence on Archie Place – near West Elementary School – but the caller hung up.

Sycamore police responded but Class had left the residence and police began to look for him.

At 3:42 p.m., Sycamore Police received a report that someone’s truck was stolen from Cottage Row – west of Blumen Gardens – and police began looking for the truck. The caller was following the truck.

“[The owner] was following it. We responded to where he was,” Cook said. “We located the vehicle on the tollway.”

Sycamore Police continued to follow Class on Interstate 88, with Illinois State Police help, into Aurora.

“The driver fled the vehicle on foot and we apprehended him and arrested him,” Cook said. “Our officer and the state police officers ended up in the foot chase.”

Cook said no charges arose from the original dispute. It was just an argument among the residences from where Class originally left.
