Sycamore police want residents to have a safe Halloween

SYCAMORE – Sycamore Police wants residents to enjoy a safe and fun Halloween, so it set out some guidelines.

Trick-or-treating is on Oct. 31 from 4 to 8 p.m. Police advise parents to accompany young children who go trick-or-treating, and that older children should trick-or-treat with a group.

Police ask that trick-or-treaters walk on the sidewalk, within the crosswalks and to never walk in the street or emerge from between cars.

• Never enter a stranger’s home for any reason

• Do not wear masks that interfere with vision

• Only eat candy that is packaged and sealed. Parents should inspect all candy before eating

• Children should avoid pets, because even familiar ones may not recognize them in costume

Report anything suspicious to the Sycamore Police Department at 815-895-2123.

Police also ask drivers to drive slow and watch for children and be cautious when entering or exiting a driveway and back up with extreme caution.

Avoid distractions, such as cellphones and the radio.
